Kimpton Sylvan Hotel

Located in Atlanta’s vibrant Buckhead neighborhood, this mid-century modern, former apartment building has been transformed to provide a calming respite within the lavish and energetic local environment. The design of this 216-key boutique retreat pairs mid-century elements with eclectic styling for a stimulating experience. The hotel offers a number of amenities, including an intimate pool area, the swanky Betty restaurant and the Willow bar, a whimsical outdoor bar and garden refuge, the St. Julep, a rooftop lounge with sweeping skyline views of the city, as well as 4,200 square feet of flexible indoor meeting and event space.

The lighting design concept for the hotel was driven by the soft atmosphere and extensive artwork program. Subtle accents lighting highlights the sculptures and paintings providing a dynamic shift from the ambient lighting of the decorative fixtures. At the reception desk, linear grazers illuminate a fan sculpture creating interesting shadows and a focal feature for arriving guests. The Betty, acclaimed for its culinary offerings, is reminiscent of an old jazz club. The lighting design creates a dramatic mood where accent lighting pin spots tables and artwork contrasting with the dark finishes of the space. The bar is gracefully illuminated using concealed linear lighting and uplights which create sparkle on the glass stemware. The St. Julep is a whimsical space where light fixtures were chosen to be a visual part of the eccentric design.  Moveable orbs provide both ambient and accent lighting in the space while intrigue is provided by a visually stunning illuminated bar.  A final item of note is that amongst the design trades, including architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, interior design and lighting design, the lead team members were all female.
